1879S VAM 1h
DOES ANYONE HAVE THE "DISCOVERY PIECE' FOR THIS DELISTED VAM? i just got one back thta Leroy ays is a vam 1H and i disagree. this does not have the same reverse as vam 1D. VERY overpolished reverse. this has a repunched date northwest.
Re: 1879S VAM 1h
Very Interesting!!!! LVA delisted the 1879-S VAM-1H April 12, 2021 (same as VAM1D). I am afraid that LVA has not been tracking terribly well since he lost his wife (very understandably). A year from now things should sound quite different - we shall see!
Have a great day!

@vamsterdam Does the coin in ? match the photos I just posted in the discussion of VAM-1D?
Have a great day!

The letter where he delisted it is linked from the VAM 1H page.

I have a name in my records, but won't disclose it for obvious reasons. The picture shown on the page is my picture of the discovery piece. This is Leroy's picture:

Mine has lots of polishing lines but it is not vam 1g/1d. Not the same reverse at all. Or obverse. I have vam 1d.

Brian
Without the discovery coin
It will be impossible to say it is
Or it isn’t
Vam iH got delisted at Leroy’s discretion
I just presented this coin as a
Possible vam 1H to him
And he agreed ,
With the help
Of some very nice gents here
I was able to do lots of cleanup/research
On the 1879 s for the whole year of 2021
I will be happy to look at any 1879 s
You may have a question about
Or just post pictures here
(Did you discovered vam 1D ?Send your vam 1D my way)

Re: 1879S VAM 1h
all vam 1d's that i have seen have a strong vertical line line at the viewers right edge of the ribbon bow. Leroy confirmed mine as a vam 1d, and 2 other fo my vams has thew same reverse. i think it is 91 die 1 and 2.
Re: 1879S VAM 1h
I think you both (vamsterdam and Vam-mysterio) are correct.
From what I can tell, the sequence of Reverse die use is:
VAM-1D (ms60PL) - the reverse has no clashed mark and no polishing lines in the field.
VAM-XX - this is the missing piece yet to be found
VAM-1H (ms61PL) - the reverse has remnant of clashed mark and some polishing lines in the field and by arrowhead.
VAM-97 (ms61PL) - the reverse has weaker remnant of clashed mark and more polishing lines.
VAM-91 (ms65) - the reverse has weaker remnant of clashed mark and more polishing lines.
