Check this out!

Stopped by the local coin gallery about 1 week and ½ ago and picked-up a couple of very nice CC Morgan Dollars. The first one was an attributed GSA 1880 CC VAM 4 in MS64 (this checks off one of my goals for the year. I wanted to find one in the wild…not at a coin show, auction house or e-bay). The second pick was a very nice 1892 CC that may become a new VAM (LVA has it now). While I was looking at the 1892 CC the coin gallery owner ask me to look at another Morgan Dollar and let him know what I thought about it. I ask him if I could take it home and look at it under my scope and he agreed. Check out the photo’s below and let me know what you think.
A few more photos.

Looks like someone (probably long ago) took a genuine 1893-P VAM-4 and added an S mint Mark to the reverse. Not a bad job at that.

Wow, you had me there for a bit.

That S looks off - as it should. What does this do to a true lover of the Lady Morgan's? Thank you for sharing.... Newbies are fortunate to get an education on VAM2.O

Wow. Genuine 93 VAM 4 with added S. If you can get it cheap it would make a good novelty coin. If the S is easily popped off the coin by dissolving an adhesive, then you have a coin to fill a Top 100 hole, although I doubt it would slab given it's probably been cleaned, both to make the S match the rest of the coin and to make the S stick.
If the gallery owner is feeling generous and it's not a consignment, he could donate it to the ANA's Morgan dollar educational set.

Several years back I did see a fake 93-s, it also looked good.
Know there is a die marker on genuine 93-s.

Think I'll see if the coin gallery will sell it. John, I like your idea. I may very well donate to the ANA Morgan Dollar educational set.

Wayne,
I'll chip in $25 to get it so that it can be donated to the ANA.
Maybe others will follow.
Thanks Wayne

I have a very similar coin. Mine is just a normal 1893-P with an added S. I also have an 1898-S with an altered date.
These are very neat coins...the only problem with this one is the base 1893 coin is also scarce, so you might need to pay $100+ for the coin.

Many years ago I got a 93-P VAM4 with an added S just like you have there! I was able to get mine for bullion so was delighted to add it to my "pile of stuff". I still have it and think it is pretty cool.

One has to wonder if the same guy worked on the other three coins. Cool stuff.
