way OT but wondering....

Post by fogie » Wed Nov 17, 2021 8:59 pm

I know this is no silver dollar (or even coin) but I was wondering if anyone out there knows what this is. It appears to have been made this way (rather than being altered to be this way...).

Just stabs in the dark. It looks like a utensil for a formal type dinner, assuming it is silver. Looks to be something you would "screw" into for culinary purposes.

1. Some sort of fruit plugger, like a watermelon or apple corer.
2. Meat poker when grilling to check wellness, or just pick it up off the grill.
3. Too big to be a wine bottle cork?
4. Crab or lobster claw meat remover?

Likely I am way off base here.

I have ideas. None of them are pleasant.

A butter pick! I would not have thought of that on my own but when "googleing" butter pick - this is what comes up! Kudos to loincutter! Thanks

Your welcome!
I used to own one in a silverware set.

I'll take "Things you don't want to see at your doctor's office" for $800, Alex.

I enjoy the diversity of interests that VAMmers have, and their high level of intelligence.
Thanks for sharing.

Your butter pick (also used for cleaning ear wax) says sterling, but a lot of US-made silverware was made from melted silver dollars, particularly in the antebellum south.

If you are bored here's some reading material:

Apparently there are folks that collect Coin Silver Flatware.

Oh, and after you read you should be able to sign up for future stuff from Martha! :D

Fogie, not referring to your post as boring, it is very interesting. I apologize if it was taken that way. I thought others here might find reading Martha Stewart boring.

I would have guessed a bone marrow extractor.

But apparently a butter pick is the correct answer
