Favorite Non-List VAM
Since there are probably more than 5000 different VAMs listed, and most do not ever become part of a major list set(Top 100, Hot 50, Hit List 40 etc....), I thought I would start a thread to see what is your favorite non-list VAM. There are many interesting VAMs that many probably do not know about, like my discovery 1880-O VAM 78.
I'll start with my favorite. 1880-P VAM 45B. Highest graded in SSDC registry is AU 55.

Re: Favorite Non-List VAM
So I will bite. 1899 O v20
I bought a raw 1899-O that was a frosty 62-63. When I got home and really looped it, I found the reverse was spectacularly doubled from 10 o'clock to 1 o'clock, all words and the eagle in that pie cut, and the search was on!
I think that there is this kernel in the back of every collector's brain of a new discovery, for awhile. I went through the descriptions online fast, nothing. I then went one by one, and there it was at 20. Discovery, this time, was gone.
But, mine looks better!

When it's no longer fun, I think I'm done!

Re: Favorite Non-List VAM
The latest one like this that made me take note is the 1924-S VAM 1A. It's the subject of my next column in Coin World. Of course, when I spot a non-list VAM I really like it has a habit of ending up on my list for the following year
often the crusher of hopes and dreams
Re: Favorite Non-List VAM
1878-S V34A (but the 98-O V-20 is a contender...)
Re: Favorite Non-List VAM
1894-S VAM-1A. Should have been on a list a long time ago.

1879-S VAM-80.
It was my first acidic VAM that kick start my addiction.

Re: Favorite Non-List VAM
My favorite would have to be the 1891 o - VAM 20 (or perhaps what should be the 20a, if I ever get around to sending it in) Someday (Retirement coming in January after 43+ years) I'll sort out the entire mystery of the 1D, 14, 14a, and 20 and get it posted here. By the way, I have never seen a VAM 14, none in registry, may not exist?

I have a 1A in MS 62-63. Glad I revisited it, it is a great coin!PacificWR wrote: ↑Mon Oct 04, 2021 2:41 am1894-S VAM-1A. Should have been on a list a long time ago.

Everything about this one is good to me!

I was lucky enough to get this from a member here on the forum several years ago. One of my favorites in my collection!

Hi new to VAM World the 1884 O Vam 56A is a very interesting one. Not really sure how the letters got below the other letters.
Re: Favorite Non-List VAM
Welcome, and that is, indeed, quite a cool VAM. I was fortunate enough to get one for myself. The clashed letters are faint, but unique, for sure.

One that makes Lady Liberty look a bit more feminine - http://ec2-13-58-222-16.us-east-2.compu ... 3-O_VAM-33.
Pretty little hair clip around a major curl, not many (if any) others described as "hubbing debris impression" (unless I've missed one). Only 20 in SSDC consensus.

Re: Favorite Non-List VAM
Mine would be a toss up.
1879s vam 57 obverse of 34a with re engraved tf rev 79
1879s vam 1j monster clash for a 79s
1879s vam 68 obv of vam 50 overpolished acid treated reverse
. I can’t vote for 1898o v20 because it is a cherrypickers listed coin but I’d like to.

Wow! Really like the VAMs selected. Some did not realize were out there.
Maybe this could be a new set. Call it the Rodney Dangerfield Set.
