now the wait begins... **grades posted**

Post by DHalladay » Wed Oct 17, 2018 10:07 pm

Just mailed 9 coins to PCGS for regrading, 5 of which need variety attribution. I will be on vacation next week, which will help make the waiting (and hoping) go by faster. I know the old saying, "ownership adds a point", but I have high hopes for some of them:

1901-P VAM 7 XF45. (Needs attribution. Lot of lustre; maybe I'll get a +)
1878-S VAM 27A XF45 Discovery Coin. (Looks more AU than the '01-P)
1878-P VAM 123 VF35. (Thought this was a 40 when I found it; still do)
1892-S VAM 2 AU53. (Needs attribution; really nice 53)
1878-P VAM 23 62PL. (Needs attribution; looks 62PL to me)
1897-O MS61. (Looks 63; I'll be disappointed if it doesn't 62)
1903-O MS66 CAC. (My brain says "67" every time I see it)
1944-D 50¢ MS67 hand-engraved initials. (Needs attribution)
1944-D 50¢ MS66 hand-engraved initials. (Needs attribution; I like it more than the 67)

Nov. 6 update: Everything stayed the same, except for the 1901-P VAM 7, which upgraded to AU53... and I sure did not see that coming. :o

Congrats on nailing those specimens. Especially the Morgan 1878 VAM 123.

They are little slow but they’ll get to em. Just got back 8 crossovers. Got 8/8, including a 1878 v44 ms62. I did well in crossovers but boy are they expensive.

WOW!!
A VAM 44 in 62 is a monster coin. Congrats!

Grades posted, and they once again tell me how little I think I know.

Great bunch,congrats.

I had a raw 1878 vam 123 that graded xf 45 did not ask for attribution.

Pleased with that one.

I did really well on crossovers-8/8, and had a mess of stuff I picked in ngc and pcgs holders that I sent back for attribution. there were 4 mistakes that got corrected. what a mess of coins. I think 7 submissions(not to mention what I sent in bulk). a bunch of top pop coins too. a few got past me though. a couple of coins where I missed a counting wheel mark(fine shallow abrasion to the uninitiated), and a counting wheel scrape(the circular scrapes on an end of roll coin that comes from mechanically sealing a roll). in my excitement for cherrypicking super rare varieties, I missed the damage. there were a few really bizarre grades-1845o rpd half, I graded it au55, they called it unc details, light cleaning. and a 1945p tdr 5c pcgs62, not sure what I am missing. lustre is strong, strike is good, and contact is at a minimum. I figured it was ms64.

Hey Dennis, that wouldn't happen to be the VAM-7 you got from me a couple years ago, was it? If so, that's awesome cuz I sold that one because I found an AU53!!

So do you lose the CAC sticker on regrades?

LOL! No, that was an unattrbuted 'pick at Great Collections in March.

None of the coins submitted had a CAC sticker, but the Long Nock is the VAM 27A Discovery Coin, so I need to send it back to J.B. for a new sticker.
