1891 VAM-6B

Post by Pareidoliac » Tue Sep 28, 2021 1:11 am

I own an 1891 VAM-6B. The VAM listing for 6B indicates "under review". Can someone give me the Cliffs Notes explanation of what that means in general and specific to this variety? If you can point me to an explanation within the website, I'll be happy to look. Thanks in advance.

The "under review" comment that shows up on several pages is misleading, in that it means that someone at one time was not convinced the variety should have been listed. It doesn't mean that anyone is actually reviewing it or a conclusion will be reached anytime soon.

In this case, I would go only with the official description and not the comments. The VAM 6B specification has the triangular bits in front of the eagle's beak, and no others do. I would continue calling your coin VAM 6B. If it becomes possible to examine a VAM 6B, 6A, and one that would be called VAM 6 simultaneously, more clear insight into the varieties could be put on those three pages. I see that both VAM 6 and 6B were revised in 2014, but it's not clear which was first.
