Can anyone explain why a MS65 1887 Vam 14A is $155. and without the Vam is $235.
Are they just slow to update???

Also it is marked Vam 14 but actually is a 14A

Values with NGC needs some timely attention. I believe if NGC were to focus more attention to keeping values up to date, they would generate more raw grading work for them, a win-win. They may be contractually tied to only post sale values generated through their site? IDK

But again a coin is only what you are willing to pay, or sell, and no one knows where the market will be in 2 months, years, etc.., but it's soooo addicting!

NGC, like everyone else, is allowed to make whatever VAM value guesses it wants. But don't assume those guesses are the same as market reality, or there is significant demand for a particular VAM.

(oops... data for wrong VAM removed)

As a postscript... Andy posted on the board the record sale recently of ..

1893-S PCGS 67 CAC $2,086,875.00 w/Buyer's Fee

And the current closest is a cool $1.25M on the NGC, unchanged since Sept 2016

Overgraded and VAM-12A is a vastly overrated variety.

you are right in MANY cases to not place too much on VAM values, However, once you start collecting VAMs and learn which ones are true rarities, THEN you will appreciate the values and having some guide for them. The SSDC has a price guide for the Morgan VAMs and it is possible to get that info as a member. It is pre-release data right now and the COVID has severely hampered the release of the info, but it can be obtained.

It's a safe bet that the person that edits the standard Morgan prices will NEVER be the same person that edits the VAM pricing in any value guide except the guide Ash noted. In a fluid market it's not unusual for the 'normal' price to eclipse the estimated value of a particular VAM from the last time they felt like taking the time to update it. Varieties are never going to be a priority in any mainstream guide. You'll get a far more accurate idea of current value by checking recent sales on eBay, Heritage and Great Collections or similar venues.

The price guide is still being completed and is not in public view yet. It is coming along. It will be at the SSDC Registry.
