Received a handwritten note from LVA a few days ago, in reply to copies of his plate images I had sent showing that 1BN and 1BP are the same, and that 3GA and 107 are the same. Here is a transcript of what he sent [my typo corrections are inside brackets]:

[1921-P] 1BN, 1BP. Yes, has same rev. die. Obv. is LDS with breaks. So, deleted 1BP which became 1BN later die state of 1BN2.

3GA, 107. Yes, has [have] same rev. But don’t know if 3GA has same obv. as 107. So, just made not[e] in 3GA & 107 descriptions that have same rev. die.


I have no idea why he said 1BN2 or what he means; there is no 1BN2.

Are Ray Castro (VAM 3GA discoverer) and Wali Motorwalla (VAM 107 discoverer) still on the boards? Looks like we need their coins to settle that question.

For now, I will move 1BP to 1BN2 in the Registry. He did say it was the later state with breaks (which are generally listable).

Yes he did say it's a later die state. But he didn't say anything about making a new listing. And hasn't he always been very clear that cracks don't constitute a VAM? And does this mean that later die states of everything are separate VAMs? I sure hope not.

What is the nature of the breaks on this particular one? Would they, on their own, merit a listing? We can see if he does add 1BN2. None are yet registered. If we do collapse them, it is very simple to move any 1BN2 to 1BN and delete 1BN2. So this can accommodate for now and we can review that next Spring when the update comes out.
