stumped by an 1889-P

Post by madbirder » Tue Aug 17, 2021 10:35 pm

I've gone through all the doubled ear iterations and still can't come up with a VAM for this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah, I looked at both of those but I don't have the 8 in the denticles of the VAM 24 and there aren't the wing polishing lines of VAM 47. The VAM 24 has all of the polishing lines in the bols and around the leaves and the cap band. The die chip in the first 8 doesn't show up in the pics on here but does show up on the full coin pics. Thanks for checking though.

update: At the right angle I was able to make out a faint line in the denticles where the 8 could have been originally. Do those sort of things get buffed out if noticed or ware smooths it out?

I had the same problem last year couldn't tell if it was a V-24 because
of all the additional stuff so I called it a V-24.

Cool, thanks for the info. I do like it when there is more stuff but not when there aren't pictures

I'm happy it is a VAM-24 because of all the other attributes but was stumped without the 8 in the denticles and with all the other doubling that's not mentioned.

Yeah, the 'can't see the MPD' stage of this marriage used to be VAM 35. I swear stuff like this exists for the sole purpose of cooking our brains slowly.

 especially us new guys. The last thing I needed was something else to cook my brain. Glutton for punishment. :D
