Thanks Tom. I agree that my VSS 88A is actually a 1BQ. I was making a public teasing of J.B. in the hope he would see it. But it looks like my unknown coin in this thread is going to wind up filling that 88A hole I now have in my SSDC date set. :D

What do you think of this idea: The more I look at my possibly LDS VAM 88A coin and compare it to my VAM 1BQ Discovery Coin, the more I think they have the same obverse... while the reverses are clearly different (due to scribbles).

Here's a photo of the seems-to-be LDS 88A:

Here's a photo of the same area on my very EDS 1BQ Discovery Coin (MS63PL). Notice the small dot near the denticles between the right star and E:

I have to call them the same; what do you think?
When in doubt... don't.

Just seeing it now. I'm sure this is neither the first nor the last 1921 with my label that needs correcting. I'm just glad there's someone hard at work steadily improving the accuracy of the information about these coins, and that it's not me.

As for 1921 being a hall of mirrors, I like to think it's a room full of mouse traps and ping pong balls.

I had noticed that there are several D1 examples with the denticle lines, but I hadn't noticed that dot before. In looking at my other D1 examples, though, I can find at least a dozen other examples that have these lines and that dot. So maybe this sort of feature was in a working hub, and transferred to several dies?

I don't have a 1BQ, so I can't see for myself. The 1BQ might indeed have the same obverse as the 88A, but don't go off of just these lines and that dot.

Great information Tom! Thank you.
I will pull out my D1s and start counting how many have lines+dot.
When in doubt... don't.
