1921-P help needed (#2)

Post by DHalladay » Thu Jul 29, 2021 6:25 pm

OK, what the heck. Here's the second D2 1921-P that I can't figure out.

By far the biggest features on this coin are a crack through the F in OF that goes down through the wing and into the tip of the right wreath, and a crack from the lower wreath that goes though the top of the R in DOLLAR. (Warning: there are multiple VAMs that have very similar versions of these cracks):

The eagle's left wing is 'pinned' to the body:

Scribbles are long gone in the two usual areas, but there are what look like meaningful scribs on upper tail feathers 1 and 2. Does anyone think they might deserve a look by LVA?

Could this be an LDS example of VAM 3HO?

YES! That is exactly what it is. :D
When I saw LVA's 3HO plate image of the polishing line (scratch?) at the E in UNITED, I checked my unknown coin and saw it has the same thing. Thanks so much Tom!

Glad I could help! My LDS example has the break at the F, but not any real trace of the break at the R.
It was the details of the eagle pin that helped me confirm the match. It's always easier with your clear photos!
