1921-P help needed (#1)

Post by DHalladay » Thu Jul 29, 2021 5:44 pm

There were two D2 reverse coins in my latest bulk batch with Messydesk that I had little hope of attributing, and nothing has changed now that they're in holders. The one pictured here has the best (albeit minimal) chance, but I've come up empty all around. Can anyone help?

There's not much in the way of scribbles; the two heavy, short ones in the 2nd photo high up the right leg are the best there is:

There are several lines in RTY on the headband, but none are extremely bold:

The line coming out of the lower cotton leaf is quite bold:

The lines inside the ear are pretty strong, and strike me as being significant:

The lines inside the leaf cluster are rather noticeable:

The G in God is filled, but that's fairly common in the 1921-P series:

I'm not sure the reverse is a match, Dennis, but the obverse looks a lot like VAM 3GP to me.

Tom:
Thanks so much for taking the time to look. :D The line coming out of the cotton leaf on this coin does look similar to the one on 3GP, but this coin lacks so many other (albeit minor) obverse PUPs that I can't begin see it being a match. And I can't find anything on the reverse that matches 3GP.
When in doubt... don't.

Mystery solved! 3GM late die state.
The denticle impressions coming out of the top right wreath are worn, but they're still there:
