FUN Followup

Post by collectinsince65 » Tue Jul 13, 2021 8:45 pm

Hey all
Arrived to the show a bit later than originally planned
TS Elsa dumped 7 plus inches in my area in SWFL on Wednesday
Left early Thursday morn and arrived at the show bout noon.
All attendees temps were taken and a disclaimer form was required to be signed
Visited with Ron B previous Dalton Bourse Chairman/ FUN volunteer
Then I walked into the show floor
It was very busy with many tables crowded
Great to see after the show being closed for as long as it was
I was there buying both Thursday and Friday
Thursday was a people day
I did meet up with several people I had not seen in 20 plus years
So that was FUN!
picked a lava wing on Thursday and several other purchases
Mid day Friday I had a short visit with Brian @vamsterdam
He showed me a recent pick 1878 S which I had never seen nor heard of
Hope he'll share more info here
Leaving his table I made two more purchases
First was a pair of 78's
A nice BU 78 33A & a BU 78 84A ho hum...
Several rows over I went by Larry B.'s table
He was busy so I didn't have a chance to chat
so I circled around and glanced into another dealers scant offerings
He looked up and asked what I was looking for?
I said 1878 Morgans
He said he did not have any but this man selling him to may
The dealer dug into the double row box and pulled out 1 coin
And handed it to me
It was hand written an 1878 rev of 79
I looped the short wheat leaf and knew
It was a VAM 203
Unattributed
Choice+++!
Borderline GEM
I handed the coin back to him and
I asked how much?
He grabbed his greysheet and said
"I can't believe how much these have gone up"
After several minutes of a non reply to how much?
I made a
"I'd be a buyer now @"......
I now own the beauty and will post images later
So it was a Great FUN show because..
First
I go to these shows now
to visit with those I have known for years
or that I may meet while I'm there
And second
for the coins I hunt and find
Mike

I agree Patrick you have to put it on your list of things to do.
Brian was obviously very busy away from his table! Nice picks!!

Friday afternoon got me irritated. Had someone call me back to my table to ask prices on 1965-67 special mint sets. Told em. Greysheet is $1 each , I’ll take $20 for the pair. He says, “ I’ll give you $9. I said, greysheet is $10, that’s what i want. He gives mw this, nah, I don’t want em, and walks away. Had lots of people look and not buy so i got up and ran the floor. The 79s v67 was tough to attribute in vg-f. Need really good optics and lighting. And today i get another grade report. NGC didn’t attribute 6 easy coins again, Along with 3 no grades(altered colorx2, and rim filed-they can see rim filed but not attribute cherrypickers guide varieties?) this is on top of pcgs not properly attributing 6 yesterday. Of course, both of them charge full price for not doing them right.

Vamsterdam
Yep very frustrating to Fight with PCGS on missatributed stuff , I had one lot of 5 coins I sent
in ( 1879s rev 78) , and they screwed up everyone of them on the attribution . They make you go thru Hell to get it corrected . Heck I dont want the pop reports to be screwed up and they are supposed to be the Pro's . LOL . Always makes you double check PCGS VAMS when buying to see if they are correct . They really screw up on the 1879S rev 78 for me . What years did the screw up for you ?
