Wide Reeding hooray!

Post by DHalladay » Mon Jun 21, 2021 8:22 pm

Just received an eBay 'pick I'm thrilled to finally have in hand: an unattributed 1921-P Wide Reeding VAM 27A in an old NGC MS65 holder! NGC puts 27A on the holder now, but this one isn't even attributed as a Wide Reeding.

Between the 3 top grading services and the 863 total Wide Reeding coins they have attributed (all 14 different VAMs combined), there are only 11 in MS65/65+ and there are no 66s. :D

I always look at MS65s on eBay for Wide Reedings, but crappy photos usually make it impossible. There was no mistaking this one, though:

When in doubt... don't.

I had a PCGS 66. I think it was a 27A. Was just in a generic 1921 tagged holder. Sold it years back. Couldn't find VAM collector takers for it then; so went as a common 66 as I also bought it originally on Teletrade.

Had a 13A in PCGS 65+ too. Not sure to whom I sold it at this point. Probably was recently enough ago. Had to have been, since it was plus graded.

Come on Dennis you had the 21 wide reeds locked from the start! Ash posted his Great attribution series of the vam 44 & other wide reeds to fill the set. He did a Nice job! He had 2 and I just could not get the AU 58 he had. I been trying, I hope one day the Vam God smiles on me !

GREAT PICK Dennis,
Thank you for sharing.
I have been looking for one of one, with the wide reeding and now I'm learning what to look for.
I'm going to look through my 1921's for the gouges.
