1880-P VAM33A VS. 33B

Post by Tekkie1 » Sat Jun 05, 2021 11:31 pm

Hi all.
I'm pretty sure I've already lost my mind but now my eyes are playing tricks on me as well.

I've recently picked 1 of these two VAMS and I sometimes can see the elusive "E" and at other times, I can't. I know they're a pain in the ass to photograph as well.
Here's my question.
Asides from not always being able to see the "E", is there a surefire, one and done die marker, clash or whatever to discern for sure between the A and B?

And BTW, when I received it , it had been cleaned as in, slightly polished. Talk about a kick in the nads. :(

Yeah, there's no "The E won't be there' marker. This B stage is a result of die wear taking out a barely visible E .
It's the type of coin that all but defines the special hell it is to be a vammer.
