OFF TRACK [1916 PROOF BUFALO NICKEL]

Post by bhinkle » Tue May 04, 2021 10:57 pm

I haven't bought, won or posted any nice vams for a LONG time.
However I did see and win this beautiful 1916 PROOF buffalo nickel,
housed in a PCGSPR67 slab and I just received it today.
I have nice examples of most of the other proof buffalo nickels.
The 1916 proof is the lowest minted proof buffalo nickel, of all of
the other proof buffalo nickel dates.
Only 600 minted. [six hundred]
I hope I remember how to post my pictures, it has been along time.
Enjoy, Bert

Great coin! In my opinion Proofs of that era are under appreciated and under valued.

A BIG THNK YOU to everyone.
It has been so long since I saw and bought a nice coin I was starting
to think that was it.
Here you go, a good friend enlighten me, on what that gold shield,
on these PCGS slabs meant, TRUEVIEW.
Not surprising, I had no idea.
So I opened the link, that he sent me and typed the last eight numbers
of the slab's serial numbers and BINGO, I got the PCGS photos of my buffalo
nickel, BELOW
Again thanks, Bert

Excellent coin and good example of Barber's revised master dies.
In David W. Langes book he refers to Barber`s work on the 1936 and 1937 Proof dies.

Love this for many reasons. The "buffalo" nickel is my dad's 2nd favorite coin - his first being Morgans. He got me hooked when I was 7 (in 1973) so I've had a shared passion for them ever since.

Dad was born in South Dakota but raised in Thermopolis, Wyoming http://thermopolis.com/attractions/hot- ... tate-park/ -- home to one of the bigger bison herds native to the area. Nearly every summer of my youth included time spent there amongst these majestic beasts.

When we weren't there we were often in Yellowstone enjoying them there.

What a spectacular coin you've captured. The only way these incredible animals should be captured.

I also like the buffalo and Indian on the buffalo nickel Dr Keil, so much so, I had bought a 1901 ten dollar buffalo note and a crisp unc 1899 five dollar chief one papa notes below.
Back in the early 60's I spent so time at the Ellsworth AFB, near Rapid City South Dakota and I was able to see Mt Rushmore and a large number of buffaloes, up close.
Enjoy, Bert

Hi Bert,

Now that is some very nice picking. If all of the notes are graded 64 then you are talking some serious money there.
