1921 3R3?

Post by amond9199 » Tue Apr 27, 2021 3:53 pm

Good Morning All,

I was on the motorcycle with the wife yesterday and came across this 1921 in a barn sale in a can of coins. A bit of chatter on the cheek but has amazing cartwheel on both sides. Fields are super clean. At the very least a 63. Hard to show on the pictures though. I'm certain 3R3! What I'm not sure about is on the reverse at the 3 O'clock the rim. Any ideas or insight would feed my hunger for knowledge. I was also wondering since PCGS and NGC only attribute certain ones if it would be worth sending to ANACS for designation of attribution or send to PCGS or NGC for grade.

Nice find on the 1921 VAM 3R3. The rim across from RIC may have had a rim burr that detached or been partially filled with debris in the die . My 3R3 does not show any issue at this spot on the rim. Value on this coin points toward ANACS as the best choice for grading service. IMO

Agree with sending to ANACS. I find my ANACS graded and Attributed sell just as well as PCGS or NGC. Personally I like ANACS better than the other two graders.

Send it to the "crusher of dreams."

Definite 3R3 in my opinion. Nice!
The cud on the reverse at 3:00 is fun! My 3R3 doesn't have it, so your coin must be a very late die state example.
When in doubt... don't.

Ash called in an air strike and I took care of it. They should be gone without a trace.

Sent it in a bit ago. Waiting for it from ANACS. I was thinking late die also. I will absolutely update in the next week. Should have by then.

Congrats on that MS 64 ANACS 1921 VAM 3R3 grade. Check out my new LDS revision 3R3 just returned from LVA that is attributed with four additional displaced field breaks on obverse and reverse. Revision already in place on 1921 VAM Page with plate photos.
