2021 Morgan and Peace dollars

The US Mint just listed the release dates for the 2021 Morgan and Peace dollars, no photos or prices yet. They will be staggered releases depending on mint mark, starting May 24. Do you suppose they will get VAM numbers eventually?

That's a very good question! Are not ALL Morgan and Peace dollars VAMs?...

That would obviously be a question for Leroy. If 90% silver, they would not really be a circulation issue, but bullion. However, the original ones were essentially bullion anyway for the most part.

Chances are there will be no varieties that anyone cares about. If someone does notice a single-squeeze (Class IX) doubled die, it'll probably go to CONECA and get a CONECA number. I suppose if someone then sent it to Leroy, it could get a VAM number if he decides, "Sure, why not? It's a Morgan/Peace dollar." He could also say it's an NCLT commemorative, and not coined as a dollar for commerce and therefore exclude it.

The release dates are 5/24 for the "CC" and "O" privy marked Morgans, 6/1 for D and S mint Morgans, and 6/7 for Philadelphia Morgan and Peace dollars.

It would be funny if the mint made deliberate die differences to make them vammable. Clashed dies, repunched date and mintmarks, polishing the die until hilariousness ensues, etc.

What we NEED to do is grow VAMming to the point where the mint releases an 1889-P VAM-23a commemorative coin!

Only minting 175k of each MM at $85 ea. Servers will crash and the little guy will be left out again. People are already doing presales at $400....sheesh.

Can't say I'm not disappointed. There's no surcharge beneficiary for this issue and they said the markup over materials and production cost would be minimal, and the production cost sure isn't $55+ per coin. They also didn't fix the 0 and overall spacing in the date on the Peace dollar. I'll probably end up with these, but now I'm not sure if it'll be this year or sometime down the road.

I am wondering how many will be minted I thought it said 175,000 of each but a few others said there is no limit ? I’d like to get them for myself and two kids wondering if it would be as cheap to wait and buy them raw or graded 69 when the dust settles . I also want the two coin silver eagle reverse proof but I’m sure that will be a mess on there site

175,000 is the limit as packaged. There's no mintage limit. This could be one of those issues where they crash the secondary market with some unlimited stuff in the fall or they could come up with more finishes and packaging options. No way to tell.

Some on Coin Community and others sent emails to the US Mint asking they lower the household limits on these for collectors to have a better chance to get them. The mint actually listened. The household limit just went from 50 down to 10.
