How's The New Vam Site?

Post by bob259 » Thu Sep 27, 2018 4:27 pm

After using the new site for awhile now, I am starting to really like the new VamWorld. A number of processes and procedures are much more user friendly and I am very happy with the changes. As was stated early on, "the move might be much better" and I concur; it is much better. I want to compliment and thank everyone involved in the move. A job well done.

Above all, I'm really liking the speed of things on 2.0. The D2 crack guide would take forever to load the images on the old site.

I was going to say exactly this, but you beat me to it. Just a few days ago was the first time I pulled up that crack guide since the migration. It was a "Holy Crap!" moment.

The VAMs by Date page is where it's always been on the wiki. From here, click on the "VAMWorld Wiki Home" link in the breadcrumbs below the black bar above, then click on one of the VAMs by Date links on the left hand side navigation pane, just like on the old VW.

Why are there no "reverse" pictures listed. Instead, we have 2 obverse full length repeated pictures. Can you say redundant?

If you're referring to the full-coin pictures, click on the little arrow icons above them to view the other side. They're shown this way to reduce the amount of vertical scrolling necessary to view an entire page.

They are pictured in Gallery Mode. Above each full coin pic are arrows for going to the reverse.

It's been a good move. Thanks to all involved in making everything work so well.

JB, personally, I much prefer the the other way with both being on the page instead of arrow scrolling. There is an issue I have come across more than occasionally. When you tap the right arrow to see the reverse it does nothing. Like a glitch. If, however, you tap the left arrow when its "glitching" then the right arrow again, it finally shows the reverse. Not sure why. Curious if others have experienced this too?

JB, the only place I see the vams by date page is on the old vamworld.

That is what I meant. Vamworld 2.0. Just a little confused.

VAMWorld 2.0 is the new VAMWorld. I tried to make it look as much like the old one as possible, except that the discussion board is very much separate from the wiki. There's no link to VAMs by Date from the discussion board, but the "VAMWorld Wiki Home" link goes to the new wiki, where you find the VAMs by Date link.

Love it overall. Some quirks I don't, like the scrolling obv/rev LFCP's but I understand the reasoning and benefits behind that one.

However the upload photo, while easier, and while it's a slight pain to have them under the mb limit, the larger issue, at least with me, is cropping my pics to stay within tolerance. I crop pics then post them and inevitably, 1 or 2 aren't within specs and I have to go recrop them.

All & all aside the minor quirks, it ROCKS! And a big shout out goes to our team of computer geniuses. We would be a ship without a rudder sans them! I think they, as a collective, should win VOTY at VAM Thing in a few months ;)

Chris,
Not sure how your program works for cropping but in mine I can crop and then resize which makes them fit the parameters.

I just use the editor on my old Note 3 phone. I've had to exclusively use my old Note 3 because it takes great photos while making cropped pics around 1mb. My Galaxy s8+ takes amazing pics too but after cropping they only go down to around 2-4mb. About the hight/width, I dont think my phone editor can set parameters. I have to do it by eye

I'm hoping to make this a short-lived quirk. On my to-do list is adding an extension to the message board that does the resizing server-side. This would mean you can upload whatever you want, and it'll be resized for you and stored at the required size. Cropping for content is still up to you, of course.

I don't need it but I am sure for many the automatic resizing is a big plus and help.

I am really liking the icon to the left that indicates if there is a new reply (icon in red) or you have read all of them there (icon in black).

Truly this was a great move.

I just noticed something else about the round icon to the left which is neat. If you posted on the discussion there will be a little mark on the upper right hand next to the circle. I like it!
