Bingo, this is exactly what I was intending to do from the start.
I might need to post some more picts on this vam.
This has all 4 of the PUP'S for the straight vam-17, has a closed 9 in date, and has a prooflike reverse.

Looks like a member of the V17 family. How about a clear shot of Liberty's neck tip including the 1st left star and 1 in the date. Then a shot of the A in DOLLAR.

Yeah, thanks, I just looked at the other pup's for the 17A and 17B for the fun of it, and determined it to be a 17B after all, since I clearly saw the die gouges near the neck point and the first left star. For the 17A, I couldn't see observable pitting around the A of dollar.
I do wonder if this particular vam is known with a prooflike reverse?

Ok, for the fun of it, these are the two pup regions.

Yeah, V17B. Still looking for a plain V17, but likely doesn't exist.

I could tell you had either a V17A or V17B from the first set of photos. The following is a secondary PUP besides the gouges at Liberty's neck tip.

Thanks again Latedatemorganguy, I do like how this site is put together, even though I had a learning curve for posting pics. As I run across more interesting vams, I can post further questions with pics as I can.
