I picked up this 83-O since I thought it may be a die adjustment strike.
What are the forum members opinion.?

Weakly struck obverse from 6th star left CCW to 6th star right and M of UNUM.

Normal reeding puts this in the 'weakly struck' pile. Sorry

But I gotta ask - there's those pancake stars on the left and no clashing apparent in the pics. Is this an actual VAM 22?

Would be nice if that was a 22 before clashing, Ive never seen one. The mm in the coin pictured appears to me to be slightly higher than the 22.

I have several examples of the die pair used in 1J that exhibit the same weakness on obverse and reverse of the coin pictured except the weakness in eagles left wing tip is not as weak in my examples.

A close up of the wing gap and lower loop of three will help identify.

The 22 is very pronounced.

I don't think this is a V-22A.
I don't see the notch on the inner bottom of the 3 of date.
I don't see the lines at the bottom of the Y of LIBERTY.

It the planchet slightly thin there? Do you have a weight? The obverse weakness is directly opposite that on the reverse.

See if this diagonal line where it connects to vertical line in upper left side of Y you can see in your coin. The 1J shares the obverse with 1C2. the lines get pretty mushy in the 1J. Also check reverse under second S in STATES for beveling of field. Can be seen on most 1J’s. It’s interesting as your wing gap looks more like 1C1, but picture may be fooling me.

I do not have anything to weight the coin.
The fields on the coin are semi-PL. When I tip and turn the coin to reflect the light I cannot see any change in the field above or below STATES, so there isn't any beveling.
Yes, eagle's right wing tip is weak; much weaker than eagle's left wing tip. Denticles above eagle's left wing tip are weak, denticle divisions are barely visible at the ends.

Possibly hard planchet (poor annealing) at normal pressure. Common problem at NO Mint. Insufficient annealing capacity to balance HQ coinage demand.
