1878 P Rev 78 Vam 83

Post by belmarbeach » Sun Mar 14, 2021 7:03 pm

I was looking at my Morgan collection yesterday and saw something on the Vam 83 reverse I never noticed before. On the right side wreath, 3rd leaf cluster from top, there were 2 raised die scratches on top of the wreath's leaves, mimicking the lower 2 leaves, like an outline of the leaves or an inverted V. The coin is PL and I'm wondering if the EDS of this Vam has this condition. Has anyone seen this before? Hard to take the proper photos with my cheap digital camera but hopefully you can see what I'm referring to, esp the last photo attached.

Here's 2 close-up photos reflecting the raised lines on the left side of the wreath's leaves. Guess polishing the working die scratched these lines somehow into the field. Although this Vam has polished Eagle wings on both sides, the breast feathers look very detailed and maybe reworked.
