Morgan Reverse Die Chips

Post by Unc90o » Wed Feb 24, 2021 10:18 pm

Thank you alefzero for setting this set on SSDC Registry.

The set is focusing on the die break/chip on the reverse die, specifically the center devices; so not for the letters/legend around the perimeter. It is quite interesting to see that most of them are from SF mint. Furthermore, the die break/chip are mostly at the second left wreath cluster. What caused that? Perhaps the press was tilted just a bit that created a pressure point there?

Neat idea for a new set. Suggestion for a additional coin for the set, 1891 9C which has a nice chip in the wreath but Van Allen called it a small break. Would add to the few none S coins in the set.

...on a side note, Tim, congrats on finding the 3rd 112; tough coin indeed and a deep hole for me.
