Buy the Holder, Not the Coin(s)

Post by LateDateMorganGuy » Sat Feb 13, 2021 8:45 pm

I picked this up off of GC just because I could. It just struck me as being off mainstream. The coins are a 1902-O VAM-51A and VAM-45 Die Pair 1. Probably paid too much for it. Thought I would share.

That's fun!

Posted just before I got today's mail. This bad boy was in the box. Bought it just for the reverse color.

This is an interesting holder. The company was being investigated for defrauding customers. In 1990 they filed for bankruptcy. I bought it off EBAY for $50.00. A nice 1881 S with original toning. I am having trouble with posting the pic.

Someone please explain to me why you would ever want to pair two coins in one slab? Maybe if they are attributable to one collector? But why even then since they have to be sold as a pair and the storage would be a nightmare since this would be an odd size.

I am learning in my Comitia Americana medals collection the difficulty of storing PCGS holders when every one is a different size and shape. I got one the other day that was over an inch thick and I believe some employee just did it by accident.
