Leroy Update
I received an update to the 89 VAM 23A saga in the mail yesterday (see Wayne's thread for details), and also a "letter on a post-it note" from Leroy that says that people should keep sending him coins, and that the "coin hobby keeps me going!" HE also said that annual supplements may be delayed a bit this year. It seems that he'd rather interact with collectors by looking at their coins than cut himself off until he finishes the supplements. So no break while he does the supplements, just don't overwhelm him with stuff, and use everyone here to help make your submissions meaningful.
It sure sounds more upbeat than things sounded in November and December. He's looking forward to both he and Marilyn having received their second COVID vaccinations by today.

Re: Leroy Update
Great news John!
Re: Leroy Update
Very glad to hear it!
Even the simplest and smallest 'good' in our lives can make a huge difference. Let's keep engaging him as much and as long as possible.
I know this has been spoken of before and I do not want to take a good news note down, but for those of us who are relatively 'new' to the group, what is the contingency plan for the inevitable day when the changing of the guard is upon us?
Can be taken to personal messages if it'd be a more comfortable forum to discuss (as I'm sure it might have been in the past).
I so enjoy the hunt, the learning, the communion... and want to keep it going as much as I can.
Warmly and thanking the leadership of this fun for all you do,
Gary

Re: Leroy Update
From what I remember of this conversation in the past, everything has already been worked out. The details have not been made public, but 'we' have been assured that the hobby will continue long after LVA is no longer the point man...

Of all the things I've lost, I miss my.........Ahh........Uhmm........something, something, something.....

Re: Leroy Update
that is as i suspected. since marilyn has been moved to a memory care unit, and they are also separated by covid rules, submissions will keep him focused.
Re: Leroy Update
Good news for sure. I sent three Morgans to him on Thursday. I was not sure if it was the right thing to do. I`m glad I can help him in my small way.

Re: Leroy Update
Sweet. Guess I should send him a package. I have a huge box of Leroy stuff as I don't think I sent him even on package last year. What's his limit again? Is it 15?

Re: Leroy Update
I should send the unlisted Peace dollars to him. The Morgans I just send to an amigo here who wants them anyway. Getting the discovery credit is not a big deal anymore for me.

Re: Leroy Update
Right. I almost want to just give them to newbies to experience the thrill (and less work for me) but, then again, that's kind of akin to cheating. Once that DC thrill is gone it has an adverse effect. Sure, it limits sending him the meh drek that he'd probably rather not want to deal with anyway but it also limits sending him the cooler stuff that he'd get a little kick out of. But if he's not stopping for the supplements, and on top of it putting out an open call to send him what ya got then that tells me he wants to keep his mind and hands busy doing something he loves.

Re: Leroy Update
Please post your "unlisted" varieties here first. Leroy does not have coins to compare, so there is a risk that he will make a duplicate listing. It is much easier to get a listing made than to get one killed.
Thanks

Is this worth sending in
21- s in God we rust?
And it’s low grade!

Re: Leroy Update
Leroy does not list filled dies any longer.
Re: Leroy Update
How does that affect past variety listings?
Re: Leroy Update
They remain in the catalog, as it would be unnecessarily disruptive to remove them. Filled dies not already in the catalog are sometimes mentioned on their respective VAM pages. See 1921-D VAM 1Q for an example.

Re: Leroy Update
Does anyone know/recall approximately what year he stopped listing filled letters?
Here's another 1921-D with a partially filled T. It's on a VAM 1U:
And this is my personal favorite (1893-CC VAM 4):
When in doubt... don't.
