1878 VAM-84..Washed out 'L'. Broken 'D'
Hi everyone, think I've attributed the coin correctly. Any feedback always appreciated. Just wondering what the cloudy looking dust is around lettering and stars and can this be cleaned without damaging coin. Thanks all, stay safe.

Looks like a VAM-84 to me, as far as cleaning I'll leave that up to others

Yes, VAM 84. Washed out L is a one-and-done on a long nock 78 for this die pair.

Hi everyone, thanks for your feedback. Apart from the 'PUP's' mentioned, another one is the Die Chip on the eagle's right wing. As for experience cleaning with chemical's, I have none. Will leave this for a later date.

acetone won't hurt that coin in probably a hundred year soak and a high probability of removing that gunk which has a large change of being cleaning compound. that is what it usually is.
rose thorns (i prefer dried hard and brown) can also be a good place to start for nooks and crannies.
