VAM This

Post by raynat3 » Wed Jan 13, 2021 4:41 pm

Saw this and had to have it. My father always used a money clip so reminded me of him. I think I was able to VAM this in a few minutes, testament to this site. I will post some pup details later tonight to see what others think is the VAM from what remains of the coin.

Ok, I'm probably way off here. I first thought 78' B rev. But when I search these the wing feathers are polished away and yours looks whole. After searching several VAMs, I started to look closer at the letter font. Perhaps it's enviro or wear, but I'm now leaning to not of US Mint origin???...

Hey Kenny, sure it’s a 1886, and fairly confident of mint. Here’s another clue.

Wow, nice photo. Cool specimen. Does it have any moving parts?

Looks like a C4/C3 reverse from what I can tell. Maybe I am wrong.

Alan, Good question. I think it’s a C3. Been polished a bit. Whoever cut this did a pretty careful job. Of course my lighting blows up right on sweet spot, it is smooth all the way down from top of berry. Don’t see the ledge with C4/C3

A couple more should seal the deal.

The wing does tell part of the story, but not 26.

I was off.
Not sure why but a few of the photos are oriented differently and look differently on my computer compared to my IPhone.

The slanted part of the top arrow feather is missing. Was it cut away?

Ray,
I think you're correct. The lines seem to match up when I use the computer to look at the VW page photos and my iPhone to look at your thread photos.

Harry, I think the top feather just got trimmed a bit close.

Hopefully the last picture will nail it for some.
