Here are other photos. I don’t think it’s 160 I don’t see double in the stars.

tpugmire:
Take a closer look at your coin ,
Take your time,
Concentrate on the reverse first,
Your rev with the repaired R matches v160,
Then try the obverse,
And try to match it against the diagnostics of the vam 160 page

This is why I came to ask you guys. I take my time and look over everything I can.
I wouldn’t post if I hadn’t looked over it all.
Vam 160 says stars are doubled.
Mine are not. Hence me coming here to ask you guys your opinion.
160 says the u is doubled
166 plainly calls out the metal gashes in the U which it has.
So I’m not sure what I’m missing here
I just go down the list and go by the call outs of each one and if it’s on the list I continue. If not I go to the next vam.

Think I’m not cut out for the vam world.
Now I see why someone had said they been on them for 8 years and still learning.
It’s a completely different language and super confusing.
Was fun and thanks for the assistance guys.

Why?

Because your coin has a broken base of the D in DOLLAR, while VAM 166 has a full D:

At that point I stopped looking at other diagnostics. But when I did later, I saw that your coin appears to have only a minimally broken R in TRUST, whereas in a 166 it is pronounced:

The doubling you show in the P and U of PLURIBUS are less distinctive and 'sharp' than is the case on VAM 166, and the 'doubling' you show on the top/right outside of the 1 in the date doesn't look like doubling at all to me. Here are shots from my PCGS-attributed XF45:

24582091 date.jpg

When in doubt... don't.

Overall the 1878 model year is tough to attribute since there are so many subtleties.

Agree yours is V160.

As for the B2 1878 P set, there are two coins that have a "repaired" r in the arm of the 'r' that being VAM 160 & V113.

V160 and V118 share the same obverse. When a coin shares an obverse or reverse, its always good to look at both listing pages.
