1883-CC Vam-4a??

Post by TPugmire » Fri Dec 04, 2020 5:36 am

First I’ll say sorry for side ways photos. I’m not sure why they are not just submitting standard 🤷‍♂️ So my cc hits all the markers that’s posted for the vam 4a.
Also I added the photo of liberty because I don’t know what them lines are. Them just polish lines ?
What are you supposed to do if you find one? Who attributes them?
Die clash marks with faint partial incuse n of In from reverse next to Liberty head neck. :geek:

Reverse C3c - First C has diagonal line at top inside of loop and metal within it. :ugeek:

Second C has metal at bottom inside of loop and short line at very top inside of loop.

Here is some others of I found
One is the s in the V of her hair but it’s super hard to get a good picture of.
One is the M initial doubled.
There is some pattern that’s showing three by the wing of the fight side of the coin.

VAM 8A. It can not be a stage of the VAM 4 marriage based on the position of the mintmark.
The lines around LIBERTY are from flaws in the planchet. These are commonly called roller marks

And welcome to VAMworld

I hate to disagree but the vam 8 does not call out the N from in on the neck line or The M under nose or the S above her V.
And from them photos you can’t possibly tell what the position of the CC is.

No, but VAM 8A does.

Actually you can. Look at the position of the Cs on VAM 4 and VAM 8, yours matches VAM 8.

We have a forest/trees situation here. Turn down the magnification a bit and start with the date. It's a clear match for the obverse used with VAM 4 and 8. Now flip the coin over to see which reverse it was. The Cs are punched individually, which makes it pretty easy. VAM 4 has the 2nd 8 a little higher than the first, VAM 8 has it a little lower than the first and tipped slightly to the right. You have the VAM 8 die pair. Clashed 'n' on the obverse makes it VAM 8A. The other clashes you are pointing out are on VAM 8A, but not every clash on the coin is mentioned in the specification. They are shown in pictures on the VAM 8A page, though.
