I'm looking at an 1898-O. I think it is VAM-7B Near Date, O Set High, Clashed Obverse n & t, Clashed Reverse M. See photos. I see the t. I think I see the m. I think I see the n in the obverse field by Liberty's neck, though not sure.
Question: Can a clashed n be on Liberty's neck or must it be in the obverse field?

Re: 1898-O
I am not aware of any letter transfer on the neck of any VAM. The 7B n transfer is in the field.
The neck is the high portion of the coin. That means the neck is in a recessed area of the die that presses the metal round. If a metal round was missing and the dies clashed, it would be very difficult for the opposite die to strike in the recessed area of the neck.
Having said that, I do know there are some VAMs that show some clashing on the face/neck, but it is not letter transfer.
Also, some letter transfer does show up in the hair curls.
I hope this makes sense,
Lee

I just want to see pics. I wonder how many people skip your site because of the hassle? Sorry about that!
