Die Marker Question

Post by rodmeader » Mon Oct 12, 2020 7:57 pm

I'm photo-documenting my 1888-P VAM-12A and noticed that the Obverse die marker noted on the VAM-12 Page is not mentioned on the VAM-12A Page. Shouldn't the VAM-12A Page be amended to include that die marker?

Thanks for your time.

You can use any color marker you wish. "Permanent" type is better.

I found I had that question when I first started looking at VAMs - was told the primary page would have the markers noted on the original VAM, and subsequent VAMs (i.e. a, b, c or .1, .2 etc. ) would only need to show the added feature which created the new VAM listing. After reading this, you'll be as confused as I am LOL

In order to avoid confusion, the normative descriptions of any given VAM should be exactly as specified by Leroy, nothing more, nothing less. Additional informative comments as to die markers not mentioned by Leroy can be added to the comments section.

Roger, your a wise man. Lured, your response makes perfect sense to me. John, sometimes I get it, some times I don't.

I appreciate receiving your responses.

Die markers are important to me, and I appreciate those that list them.
Suppose I had a coin that had PMD to the date or mint mark.
Without the die markers I wouldn't have confirmed attribution to a scarce coin.
