Guess what I found in the $30.00 box of Morgan's
Re: Guess what I found in the $30.00 box of Morgan's
Thank you Mike. Could I get you to take a close up of the neck and the back of the cap where the cap clash would be. On the neck there may be a chunk missing. On the reverse could you take a close up from the wing to the N of IN? Thanks!

Mike,
The close-up photo of the neck says it all. There is no doubt it is the same obverse die as VAM-23A. Thanks for posting the photos it sure answered a lot of questions and opened the door for others. Think I know the story on the reverse die.

You guys are trodding right into active research that got stymied by Leroy's situation due to COVID. I wanted to do this in person, but now I feel I have to launch preemptive strike just to keep the details straight. Still refuse to put the 23A loaner in the mail. I have the details worked out and all the actual pieces in hand. The tentative listings that were already done are only part of the real story here.

Yeah I kind of figured that out when there was very little response. You know it would probably be a good idea when a study like this is under way to create a post and let the rest of the VAM community know. In short, I think I have the obverse die figured out and with the remaining puzzle pieces coming in the mail (on the reverse die) I should have a good handle on the reverse die I will keep the finding to myself. I do not blame for not wanting to send the 1889-P VAM-23A in the mail. I would not do that either. You may be in for a long wait.vampicker wrote: ↑Sat Sep 05, 2020 11:16 pmYou guys are trodding right into active research that got stymied by Leroy's situation due to COVID. It has been mentioned, including in this thread.

Like I stated above creating a new topic with a little information like the general purpose of the study and the folks involved would let the VAM community know a study is in the works. I would venture to say most folks do not read every single post or attend the Fun Show or other coin shows. Whenever I have an update to my 1900-S die study I create a new post and share the latest findings with the VAM community.

If it lends to this thread, here are links to my 1889-P V23B and V23D. Gonna reshoot the LFCP's later on.
I may have a V23C, but I cannot capture that transfer as shown at the plate photo. However, the coin shows a double clash line at the jawline and a single clash line a bit below it. Can I assume the single clash mark is representative of where the n transfer would be? What I see is what shows on the additional photo at the VAM-23C page.
Any info and feedback is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Andy you and Rod hit a homerun every time you take photos (SDP). The details are just remarkable. Your photos on what you are calling VAM-23D EDS prove without a doubt the obverse die used on VAM-23A is the same one used on VAM-23D. The photos just blew the door off the hinges. The damage to the neck and back of the cap are still there. On the reverse....let's just say for now it is very interesting. Thanks a million.
