Is there a way to edit a discussion question you created? In particular, swapping out some of the pictures and improving some of the text? And can this be done without creating a "reply", which can give the impression that your question was already answered by someone?

Possibly on your post you can click the little "pencil looking" box in the upper right corner and edit your original posting from there?

If you are talking about your initial post - You should be able to by hitting the pencil top right.
That being said you cannot delete the post if there are responders underneath it.
The admin would have to delete.

Good question and good answers.
If you want to learn about editing your post including photos, you can go to the
“Test feedback” page. Make a test post and put up any photo. Then try to make any changes to your post that you want to. It’s a good way to learn post manipulation.
