1878 S Vam 112
LVA just sent me a hand written note regarding a mystery 78-s Vam that perplexed many of us.
It was AQed Raw earlier this year. It has the engraved wing feather so thought it would be easy
To ID. After grading, knowing LVA was updating the 78-s guide, sent it in for LVA inspiration.
He wrote “the EWF at wing matches Vam 112 as does DBLD wheat leaf RT side. Two faint closely spaced polished lines RT side of rt cotton boll & Rev polishing line on eagles rt wing 6 feather from
Bottom.
Vam 112 was reported by Doug Binder in May 2013.” This is the second one found now resides in
A PCGS 63 holder

Outstanding1
Congratulations.
That blob on the eagle's chest is interesting!

When in doubt... don't.
Re: 1878 S Vam 112
The blob was first that I noticed when I examined the coin. It's not clear from either the pictures or the text if it's on the discovery coin or not.
Welcome to the VAMWorld 2.0 discussion boards. R.I.P. old VAMWorld.

When It was raw, I saw the blob lower than usual on the breast., knew it was Not Vam 28, so knew it was something I’d never seen
Before.

I remember this find and needed to get better pictures of full coin and the breast chips. I remembered this post had pictures. Surprised none of those great pictures made it to the VAM 112 Page. Great find, Pete. The Sucketh be with you on it.
Waiting by the mailbox is painful

Re: 1878 S Vam 112
Thanks Pete,
If it wasnt for your post and the pictures of the die chips then I would have passed it by quickly as just another fish on the bay. I'm hoping it is a struck through at neck/chin. MS 61-ish , there are two good bag marks on face and neck.
Am I correct than this is no longer a Wiki where everyone can edit pages ? I tried to add pictures with no luck.
Good to see you about Mitch.

Sort of looks like a struck thru area; hope so; on a side note, you are making it difficult to gain on #1!
