OT: Registered mail lunacy

Is it any wonder that Registered shipping can sometimes take so freaking long? Here's my tracking status check results from a few minutes ago. By the way:
– Meridian, ID is a handful of miles from Boise.
– Salt Lake City is a 5 to 6-hour drive from Boise.

So...
– Boise sent my package to SLC.
– SLC sent it back to Boise.
– Boise then sent it back to SLC.

Heaven only knows where it will go from there.

Oh, I forgot to mention that this is a Priority Mail shipment.
And the mailing receipt says expected arrival (Sacramento) is today.

I suspect it won't make it quite that fast.

My latest inbound was shipped from St. Louis last Friday and arrived today, which is pretty good, but every package is different. What is most troubling about the Mach 1.66 trip from SLC to Boise is the fact that the chain of custody a registered package can appear to contain bogus information (i.e., the supersonic trip to Boise).

Dennis,
I feel your pain. My recent pick, 1880-P VAM-25B, left the contiguous 48 states. I thought that there was a good chance that I would never receive it. After a round about trip, it finally made it's way to it's rightful welcoming home. :P

Hopefully your package will get to it's rightful home also.

I had a PCGS return package (1 hour drive) take well over a month years back. Was hanging in Puerto Rico for weeks. But then I sent a registered package to Las Vegas at the end of last month and it arrived there the next day.

Overnight w/ signature. I've still yet to find a safer shipping method. All the big dealers I've known have always used overnight (and private insurance). I've never had an overnight package lost yet. Priority Mail is pretty decent too - under most circumstances.

Even normal mail is a bit crazy - they closed the postal sorting division in the city I live in - Everything now goes to Kansas City, then they sort out the stuff that goes back to here and it comes back a day or two later. Federal efficiency.... LOL

Government at it's finest.
What makes matter worst we elected these people and let them do it to us.
I have always stated "If our government was a business, they would be out of business". It's a good thing they have an unlimited source of income.
