With so many eyes on 00-O mm's, I would think there would be dozens if not hundreds of specimens of each found.

In the SSDC registry, there are two VAM-24 listed. One of them is mine. It took ten years to find that one. There is one VAM-25 listed that is not mine and no VAM 26 listed. I look long and hard for examples and find none. But that does not mean they don't exist. Good luck in your quest.

It doesn't help that the mintmark in the VAM 25 plate appears to be strike doubled.

Outstanding. That is quite impressive, these appear to be at very least R6 coins. Is there any way you could post images? At least of date & mm? Thanks.Bigbub wrote: ↑Fri Aug 07, 2020 10:41 pmIn the SSDC registry, there are two VAM-24 listed. One of them is mine. It took ten years to find that one. John, I have what appears to be a candidate for v26. But it seems much more dramatic than the text would imply (not sure where my big book is, so I haven't seen the plate). It looks almost like strike doubling it's so dramatic.

That is hard to say, but I like it.

After looking at the plate in the big book. It seems to be strike doubling. I like it though.

What's most interesting, is that the center line is perfectly straight the whole way - no curvature at the top or bottom. What would seem to preclude an O/O or O/CC (and it would obviously rule out machine doubling as well). Truly bizarre.

I know this is impossible short of some drunken mint mix-up, but it almost looks like an O over a Large D. And I completely understand how improbable and problematic that it. I'm just at a loss. Hence my asking the walking encyclopedia's for their thoughts. John R, John B, Brian - does this look at all familiar?

That piece is strike doubled. I'm willing to bet if you look at the rest of the reverse, you'll find a couple of other spots with the slide in the same direction. These dollars aren't like Washington Quarters that can twist on the mintmark only

Dont forget, 1900-O VAM 37 which was an O/O listing was eliminated years ago after it was determined to be strike doubling, so this may be the coin you have.
Re: Question for the experts - 1900-O VAM-24,25,26 O/O
After checking my Big Book and looking at the VAM-37 photo, I'll have to retract that suggestion. The doubling on the VAM-37 goes the other way from your photo.
Re: Question for the experts - 1900-O VAM-24,25,26 O/O
Here are the date and mintmark photos of my coin. As you can see, the mintmark is doubled inside to the left. My coin is also clashed but I can see no letter transfer anywhere.
