86O E Clasher

1886-O VAM-1A2 Multi Clashed E Reverse
Discovered by Russ James December 2014
This coin is a Top 100 and a WOW! Morgan VAM.
1A2 (revised) III21 · C3a (Clashed Obverse t, Clashed Reverse BER) (181) I-4 R-4
Obverse III21 - Clashed die with partial incuse t of Trust from reverse showing in right hair vee of lower hair edge for late clashed dies with seven clashes.
Reverse C3a– Multi Clashed die with full raised E below eagle’s tail feathers on left side and partial B & R next to E from obverse LIBERTY.
Comments: The Multi clashed VAM-1A2 is the "7 clash type" the grade of this coin will determine it would qualify as a V-1A2. While the "T" clash in theory is present with all 7 clashed type, standard prodigal is that the letter transfer is visible. On lower grade coins this clash may be worn away or hidden by circulation. While Leroy tagged this as a discovery, its been around for some time. The double clashed type is most common and the Multi or 7 clashed type seems to fall second in rarity in MS grades. The Single clashed VAM--1A1 is by far rarer in any grade and to date of this discovery only 1 MS example of the single clashed type is known in PCGS plastic.

Nice looking E; and the transfers of the stalks and the lower portions of the cotton bolls between the left wing and arrowheads show really well. Great features all around.

I suspect that the clashed t, under the loupe, would be double clashed. It appears to be doubled clashed in the photograph.

The original post failed to display the images because the images were coded as if they were local to the Forum. Unlike VW10, the VW20 Forum is independent of the VW20 Wiki. Thus, to display images from the VW20 Wiki on the VW20 Forum requires coding for external links. The author of the original post should be able to edit the OP to tweak the links. Only the author of a post has write permission (administrator excepted). The code below demonstrates how to display images from the VW20 Wiki on the VW20 Forum in a R1C2 table. This code uses VW domain based URLs.

Sexy VAM ron. Too bad about the swipe hairlines on obv but its the rev that matters anyway 8-)

Also, curious what this means -'"the grade of this coin will determine it would qualify as a V-1A2."- why would the grade determine which VAM she is?
