1883 s Dropped Letter

Extremely random occurrence caused by compacted debris inside the recessed letter "D" on the reverse die
which then falls out prior to striking the planchet. This compacted form of the letter "D" is struck into the
planchet, wherever it happens to land, causing an incuse imprinted "D".

Double "D" DOLLAR

Crae Morton , Treasurer of SSDC, scribble specialist, personally viewed this specimen at a coin show here in
North Carolina.

Well I own an 1878 (of course!) V195 in PCGS 62 plastic with a "Dropped I" on the reverse. One of the neatest coins in my 78-P set; bought years ago for an incredibly cheap price to boot...
