It's weird that you got "not enough" for those two, Dennis. LVA will often say that if the examples submitted are worn, have machine doubling, or are toned, but yours seem like good, clear specimens.

I remain curious about what we can/should call "not enough #1" as I have two nice examples...

Dennis,

The revisions have been completed and the new page is a done deal. Check them out and let me know.

I am stumped too. :? I just found an MS66, but there's no way I'd even consider buying it without being able to give it a VAM attribution.

Do your coins also have:
– finger feed gouges at OF?
– a down-right crack from the left star?
– a crack across the top of U in UNITED?

Heh. My two examples are both in PCGS holders - one is a MS63 and the other is indeed an MS66. I sent the 66 to JB just to see what he'd say, so now it's sporting a "VAM 3" VSS label...

Yes to all three. They both also have that obverse crack, running from the corner of her mouth to the neckline.

I think at some point we have to accept that there will be multiple 1921P VAM 1 / VAM 3 declarations, and that if we want to differentiate them we need to track them (VAM 3 die 1, VAM 3 die 2, etc.). In doing the 83P die study, I was initially disappointed that LVA would call multiple different die pairs "VAM 1" but decided to document them as such if only to identify them as known, evaluated die pairs and part of the nomenclature.

I really like your idea about documenting as many different versions as we can of VAMs 1 and 3, so folks in the future will at least know that others have already been down those dead-end attribution paths. I have photos of 8 different VAM 3s to contribute.
