PCGS Declares a New Vam.

Post by Andy Hansen » Mon Jul 13, 2020 5:02 pm

Fresh off the grading table!
That's right fellow Vammers. PCGS has by-passed LeRoy and gone straight to declaring
a new DOUBLE VAM. That's right ! it's a double Vam ! Buy one of these and you get
TWO Vams declared on the Label for the price of one.

1888-O Vam-24, Oval O; Sub-Variety Vam 1B EDS

PCGS never makes mistakes, right?
When in doubt... don't.

Usually there's one in every bulk order. Not like this, though. This had to have been caused by some sort of thoughtful incompetence.

Wow, way to smear a skidmark across the label of a condition census coin. Guess this qualifies as a 'mechanical error'

One I have had since the mid-1990s. Couldn't get the attribution on the label because they would change it to MS63, despite being obviously DMPL.

Yeah, for years it was accepted that the 1888-O Oval O VAMs and the questionable origin micro o VAMs were unknown and unexpected to ever be found in UNC.

Magnified the photo posted here and it looks to have a die crack similar to the 1B EDS..... does it have the reverse of VAM 24 oval O ?

Incompetence has no boundries or money attachments
And they are a public traded company= Embarrasing at best
As i have stated for yrs- I am not a fan- but like Ebay - Few choices as PCGS coins
bring most money on avg,and Flea Bay coins get most exposure in general

Away with them i say & especially NGC LOL IMHO

Zero chance the two varieties are related at all beyond being made in the same year at the same mint. The Scarface dies don't have the Oval O and that's clearly not a stage of the VAM 24 obverse. My best hope is this was an accident.

Gotta ask, was this a VAM 24 or a VAM 1B EDS?

I am seeing a likely 1B EDS; Harrison stage 2 probably. The 1B date is slightly slanted like this. The VAM-24 is not.

I also think it's a 1B eds and not an oval O

133927 is the PCGS number for VAM-24. I do not recall the V prefix. the E is used for errors.
