Presumably it's an optical illusion - but the design part looks smaller than the planchet to me. And "Yes" I am wearing my glasses and I tried them upside down and backwards and it looked the same.

Combination of the spread of the unconstrained planchet and the hendecagonal border instead of a normal rim.
