If I had an MS69 Morgan, I wouldn't be looking to get a new VAM assigned to it.
Right. But Jack Lee did own one or two. That was my thought process anyway
The PCGS 69s are all 80-S and 81-S, except for one 96-S. That Jack Lee is not the VAM Jack Lee.

Really? I've always had a gnawing suspicion they weren't the same but assumed it couldn't be a coincidence. Whats that they say about assumption

i understand not doing it because a buyer would most likely shun the coin. i've seen it too many times. even if for little to no premium, some are simply turned off to the coin because of it. different strokes.

but to not seek out a decent discovery on a 67 or higher and be able to say ya, i have the highest graded d/c coin to-date would be a hard thing to do. (to me) guess it depends on the coin. (i picturing a common date)one could always leave out the vam part afterwards. also during this shutdown time would be tough because of the long hold.

i guess i want to see where the line would be drawn simply for conversation sake.

@messydesk - would you pass sending to leroy for a new e-clash PCms69 monster toner? how about a new crumbled obv or rev? an obv clasher with 4 partial letters? now we are figuring it is not a monster date of course. there are some key morgans/peace vams where the coin itself is 5 figures or more and still the vam does add respectable addtional value.

Since we're talking hypothetical situations here, it would be the kind of coin I would hand carry to him, more for our mutual enjoyment than the cachet of discovery coin status. I can pretty much guarantee you that the VAM status of such a coin would add almost nothing to its value. Lloyd Gabbert's 78 VAM 14.11 in 67 would sell for 78 8TF 67 money, which is mid-5 figures, much as a monster toned 69 common date would be. A 78 8TF in 67 trades so in frequently that you wouldn't be able to tell the VAM premium from the margin of error of guessing the price.

Great thread here. I did not know about V36 B. Now I have two "B"s. Nice polishing on them.
