1923 D $ Named " Peg Leg" by LVA

Post by RogerRock » Sat Aug 25, 2018 6:34 pm

Late Die State 1923 D Peace $ VAM 1B2 revised has been nick-named "Peg Leg" by LVA on 8-12-18.
Leroy's remark reads "Has die break O on rev & die crack from 1 top to neck with displaced field break
of 1B2. Yes has unlisted Large Die Chip at 1 top left. Quite a spectacular chip on obv! "
Official description of revised die variety is as follows: 1923 D $ 1B2 (revised)
( Die Breaks O, 1, Peg Leg)
Also received new Vam 65 & 65A on 1900 O $
Also received new Vam 1I3 on 1921 D $
Also received revised Vam 1L3 on 1921 D $
Also received revised Vam 1K3 on 1921 D $
Also received revised Vam 2BA1 on 1922 P $ (Unlisted collar clash rev 4-5 o clock)

I feel honored to have my late die state 1923 D $ nicknamed "Peg Leg" by LVA.
Wonder how long it has been since LVA assigned a previous nicknamed VAM?

Cool. Not sure I like the possible future Ike crossover confusion though. I too would be curious to know when the last time he officially nicknamed a VAM was. Most of the big nicknames we know were given in the 70s/80s. For instance the "Hot Lips," I've heard, is a tribute to M*A*S*H.

Isn't there an Ike dollar with the Peg leg designation?

Yes. And multiple years too from overpolished dies. Its probably the most generally known variety term for Ikes even ahead of the friendly eagle variety. Heck, then you even have the 76 bicentennial which was a hub design peg leg.
