I do believe picture taking is not that hard with some basic equipment. To take basic pictures I would buy a Digital SLR camera with a zoom lens such as 18-55 with image stabilizer and automatic focus. There are many out there for reasonable prices. The bay is full of them. All you have to do is make sure you have good light, zoom to the size, and the camera will do the rest. There is a memory card in the camera you can plug into your computer for uploading. Up loading to VW is not hard. Also, you can take many pictures other than coins with this setup. Photography is fun.

This is very basic and I use more other procedures such as a computer program to crop and other things. Also have a digital microscope camera but you don't need these to take basic pics, just a camera and lens.

If anyone wants to look into buying a camera with a zoom lens I can suggest ones on the bay. Probably cost you a couple of hundred to get what you need but it will last a lifetime. You can do it!!!!!

A cell phone will get you started... and be WAY better than what you are doing now.
When in doubt... don't.

for those that want a decent and inexpensive way out, i recommend just using a smartphone 6th generation or newer. iphone 6s is 60 bucks or less. samsung moto 4e does ok but for a little more money the used iphones will dust probably every other phone on the market from my experience. - there are some amazing scanners /especially if you know how to change the settings/ out on the market but you'd have to do some forum searches as i don't have that info anymore. search here or at CU.

now do you guys have trouble uploading or just taking decent images?

if you want to send me a couple images to tinker with, send me a pm - [email redacted, send a PM].

either give me a heads up via pm or a few days as i don't check it but 1-2 times a week.

edited to add:

here are a couple examples of my iphone 6s + cheap loupe. takes some practice and lighting is very important but the results are decent imo.

Scott:

I took this photo with my cell phone just now.
My cell phone is almost 5 years old.
I was too lazy to do anything fancy with lighting, so I sat on my butt in my office chair and hand-held the coin near the desk light.
I emailed the photo to myself.
I clicked and dragged the photo into this message I'm posting now.
Voila.
You can do this.

for those with scanners, there are supposed to be settings to increase quality of images, like with actual cameras and camera phones.

once you start a post, look for "Attatchments",it is beside "Options", click it, then click "Add files", then you do need some basic PC know how to direct to where the images are on your PC or HDD etc.
