1878 P VAM-134 EDS No Polishing lines
1878 P VAM-134 EDS No Polishing lines
Well I bought this coin not really knowing what it was, but it looked a bit nicer than the grade given it. As it turns out the seller sent in 20 coins and 17 body bagged, and I think the graders may have made him pay for that error.
Anyway this coin has fields that clearly reflect 10 inches or more and its a vary early VAM-134 with no scribbles or polishing lines all over the reverse. This die state is not un-known but is rather uncommon, can we get a VAM 134 EDS designation in the SSDC registry?

Plumb pretty plum.

Yeah, I was responsible for getting LVA to update the V134 listing several years ago. Actually the EDS is 2-sided DMPL or maybe PL , and there is a 2-sided PL slightly later die state with a few polish lines visible and there is the traditional one with all the die polish lines. I have all 3 die states in my B2 set. Nice coin, BTW.
Re: 1878 P VAM-134 EDS No Polishing lines
This one has No polishing and looks more like a DMPL than the PL designation given. It is graded MS-62 PL, and in hand looks way better than the grade.
Re: 1878 P VAM-134 EDS No Polishing lines
An eighth (6 out of 47) of those registered are designated as PL/DM and likely EDS.
Re: 1878 P VAM-134 EDS No Polishing lines
Seventeen out of twenty body bagged? That is weird? They must have been really bad.
Re: 1878 P VAM-134 EDS No Polishing lines
The seller had bought a lot of coins from a guy that ...was less than honest over the years. The guy was sold some key dates as Unc and MS coins that where AU wiped and crap like that. The guy sent in what he thought was the Best stuff, so the ones that did grade where ………. well not treated well!

Re: 1878 P VAM-134 EDS No Polishing lines
I have one in a PCGS 64PL that has a very light trace of a line from the wreath to the E in ONE.
