A little something different for the Dark Siders

Just picked this up last week. A Society of Medalists issue by Anthony DeFrancisci, the designer of the Peace Dollar.

What type of metal is it?

Lightly antiqued silver over bronze. Around 72mm and heavy. 1st variant from 1935

That is very cool! Given the unusual shape I have to ask how it was produced.

It has to be cast. My image doesn't really convey the relief of the obverse. And those lightning bolts are continuous, wrapping around the edge. It was made by the Medallic Art Co,

Interesting, piece of history. I have to say the first thing that came to mind was the shape and then a Girl Scout cookie box emblem.

I thought this had to be cast, but Alexander's book on the subject strongly suggests this was struck. As such, I'm even more amazed by it.

The other medals in the series are clearly struck until you get to the much later years.
