1889 Morgan VAM 23a?
1889 Morgan VAM 23a?
I have an 1889 uncirculated Morgan dollar and I was looking through my coins the other day checking for the classes in errors and I came across this 1889 that has all the characteristics and I clashes of the VAM 23a. It has the line underneath the N in In God we trust on the reverse, it has a doubled eye rotated a little above the normal eye and in her neck the same place and look. It looks a little thinker on mine but clearly visible and the same

Sorry to say, this is not a 23A.
The clash location on your coin is very different and weaker than the 23A.
You are not the first or last to think your coin may be a 23A.
Most of us would like to find one.
Good luck

Nope X2.
Re: 1889 Morgan VAM 23a?
78 s Longnock & myself each have one 23A that are #1 pop & # 2 pop to my knowledge
23A is many times mis attributed by collectors -- Vam 40A1 is usually the vam mis attrib as 23A
Of course there is but a handful known of 23A
Sorry its not the multi thousand dollar pinnacle rarity your first thought

Those in the know sighed out loud at one of the posts in this thread...
As to the original poster, what DHalladay said is true, if you have to ask you don't have to ask... take a look at the VAM-23a page, a VAM-23a WILL look EXACTLY like that.

I go totally NUTS for WOW! VAMs!! Or is that from WOW! VAMs?
Re: 1889 Morgan VAM 23a?
It is very sad that a SSDC director here continues the 10 yr relentless, now subtle jabs at me concerning
my posts and responses to others posts. I have refrained for calling him out for yrs now, as it gets me
kicked off here, due to his SSDC position, with no help from the heirchy here period
Several yrs ago i was basically called a outright liar when i posted some stellar 1882 o/s EDS for sale
When my e bay pics of the Coins were linked here on BST; The accuser shut up fast as it proved his
accusations totally false, and when i called him on it, he simply twisted everything and issues
escalated, resulting in my posting priveledges being revoked.
Eventually i sold the 2 stellar 1882 o.s EDS in ms63 to a top member here, who natrually used them
to further his PCGS set pursuits.
This is not meant to start the feud up again, but rather to again ask the NAYSAYER to stop the now
subtle negative naysayer accusations.
Maybe a administrator can again get the balls to address this with the fellow director
This type of nonsense is why i dont participate in organizations, groups etc

A picture of your 23A would end this pretty much forever. Images in threads are literally drag and drop.
Your repeated dissertations of persecution are meaningless without pictures. For now I remain a doubter of your word - a grain a truth buried in a large dose of BS. Prove me wrong and I'll actually apologize.

Welcome to the forum @Steadman
There is a tremendous amount of knowledge on here to help you learn and gain info about VAMs
Your coin is certainly a nice example of a clashed 1889
I did some research and believe you may have a VAM 7B
Here's a link for you compare your coin to
Hope this helps.
Again

Full coin photos would be a big help, I pulled out my MS63 VAM 7B and it doesn't look like
a 7B to me.

Hi agree Mike @hairfield1
Full images may help.
I do not have a 7B to compare this to.
I only have a 7A.
The high neck clash lead me to my guess,
My closeup of the 7A
I am sure others on here can help our new vammer in this hunt!

What a difference in the SHARPNESS of the REV photo's compared to the BLURRED photo's of the OBV. Can you post better photo's of the OBV.
