The VAM 5 has soooo many stages. Clash, polish, polish, clash, polish, clash, clash, polish - I'm working on a listing of stages, but it is difficult to enumerate them all.
Your example looks like it is later than VAM 5C, but earlier than VAM 5D. If there is no discernible letter transfer, then I think LVA would just call this "VAM 5". Or you could call it VAM 5 LDS.

Vam 5D has to have that clash die break on the back of Phrygian cap below ribbon. Yours looks to be late die state of VAM 5C. JMO

Looks like probably LDS of VAM 5D. The break shows up just fine in the seller's pictures. The clashes should be there, too, but they fade over time. The specification of VAM 5D only states that the letter transfer clashes have been wiped out by new ones, and that the die break is visible on LDS specimens.

Yep 5D LDS - is there an XLDSmessydesk wrote: ↑Fri Apr 03, 2020 6:42 pmLooks like probably LDS of VAM 5D. The break shows up just fine in the seller's pictures. Clashes are as seen on original pictures
no letter transfer can be seen at this point
Break is there but worn down quite a bit
The wing scratch looks like a cavern on this coin
Interesting forehead markings / lines
The first 8's Die chip on right side looks substantially larger as compared to pictures here
Coin looks to be a nice looking MS-63

Think you have that transitional stage between VAMs 5C and D. The break at the back of the cap for a full blown 5D is strong and obvious. Looks like you just have the beginning of this break.
often the crusher of hopes and dreams

I think I was looking at the wrong picture. The one that lioncutter posted is the VAM 5D LDS. The transition from 5C to this state is a long one, and seems to be a very common die stage.jgrinz wrote: ↑Mon Apr 06, 2020 10:52 pmYep 5D LDS - is there an XLDSmessydesk wrote: ↑Fri Apr 03, 2020 6:42 pmLooks like probably LDS of VAM 5D.
