O/T From Vams to Gold Pickin & Mining

Post by morganman » Wed Feb 19, 2020 4:36 am

So this winter has been slow for coins and i was getting stir crazy with all the wet dreary Oregon
weather. So i decided to go around to Antique malls and etc looking for real gold nuggets, fines, etc
A friend owns a Antiques Consignment Mall. he said some consignors had various amts of gold for sale

Also a coin dealer friend has a shop where he gets lots of miners bringing in raw mined gold to sell
So i've spent 3 months buying 50 oz where my coin shop buddy gave me a tip to a area known for
having gold in several local smaller flow streams. I borrowed my neighbors gold mining equipt and
set up in a very remote canyon, staying in my motorhome.

I spent time and money shopping for warm mining clothing etc- What a total blast- I took 2 young
neighbor fellows with me to do the hard work of setting up and working.

3 months has netted me some 65 ounces of which i am having 115 total oz refined/melted into
small 1 oz bars. Cant wait to get bars back from refiner

One of the most fun adventures ever- so i bought my neighbors mining equipt and now set
to continue after taking time off. The learning curve is amazing, but hiring a prof miner for
consultant was paramount to operation.

I have always wanted to try this- ITS A TOTAL BLAST

Minelab makes a new detector that is optimized for gold nugget detecting, weighs just 3 pounds and is submersible, only costs $1200… it is The Minelab Equinox 800. The plan is to take one into the mountains this spring and then buy the remaining SFLN’s in the summer.

I live in a subdivision where there are a number of old gold mines left over from the 1829 Georgia Gold Rush. I guess if I ever get the itch I can go to the creek behind the house.

I still have two months before the Wyoming winter releases its grasp. I find a little bit of gold. but the fresh mountain air and some exercise is the real reward
