Hi All,
This is a Special Vam 58 & it has the Rev of the Vam 58 & 56.
This is the second Vam 58 BU coin known ( update, this is the same 65PL that was graded in 07 but was put thru conservation was SP was added in 18.)
Don Willis PCGS Pres. is wrong!! Its not one of the presentation pieces.
The 1878 S Vam 60 B-1 Rev is the Presentation Piece that was minted infront of the dignitaries in
The afternoon of April 17th 1878.
But the Vam 60 wasn’t the first Long Nock minted that day, Some time in the morning
Of April 17 1878, they practiced first with the Vam 26 EDS,
........... I have the proof.......and will show it to key Vammers at the Aug ANA Philly.
78-SLongnock.

Update, there is still only one Vam 58 65PL, PCGS just added Specium to the Vam when it went in for review this past June.

Holy carp!
Re: PCGS just graded an 1878-S VAM 58 SP65!
So what your saying Peter is that the S.F. was pro active and wanted to avoid a production failure, so they practiced with a few of the dies they had on hand 'before' the presentation event. Interesting, how do we know this?...

Can you elaborate? There is a good discussion happening on the PCGS board right now, and being able to add evidence about the happenings of the day would be welcome. Can you show that the VAM 26 EDS and the later VAM 26 is a re-marriage? Was VAM 56 made after VAM 58? I had forgotten that they shared a reverse.78-sLongnock wrote: ↑Mon Aug 06, 2018 9:55 pmHi All,

Amazing coin, amazing pedigree!
That's one fascinating thing about this hobby -- odd stuff, from basements, vaults, and private collections, just show up!

Messy,
First didn’t see this coming but will need to dig the key B1’s out of safe, are you attending ANA?
Will need to have pictures of Key attributes professional photos, thinking of doing a talk at FUN.
The series is as follows: Vam 58 OB ll25 Rev B1C, Vam 56 OB ll24 Rev B1 C , Vam 62 OB ll24, Rev B1 G
So the vam 58 & 56 share the same Rev ( they have what is called the ....Kenny pick point) & Vam 56 & 62 share the same OB.
Yes, the Vam 26 was remarried. There is Vam 26 EDS & was minted before Vam 60.
Are you ready...... than Vam 57, it has multiple stages .... and then Vam 26 LDS.
So, the Vam 26, 60, 57, & 26 share the same OB
Each has a different REV. (The Vam 26 EDS & LDS has distinguishing pic points)
Then the these dies were retired.
The key pics can be seen in my set over at PCGS.

Re: PCGS just graded an 1878-S VAM 58 SP65!
It took a LONG time to prove it, but .....Kenny is the first person
Who came up with the theory that the Vam 60 wasn’t the first one minted.
From the mint records, the dignitaries were present for the 1878-s Vam 60 mid afternoon
On April 17th. The J. Gus Burt presentation piece came from this ceremony.
But, there is a small problem: the 1878-s Vam 26 EDS was minted first.
This Vam 26 EDS PCGS 58 coin surfaced Raw in Philly. It is one of what I call one of two Rosetta
Stone Epiphany Long Nocks.
So ....Kenny came up with the only theory that makes sense, They first practiced on the
Vam 26 in the morning!

Interesting. I'll add this info to the PCGS thread in the morning. And, yes, do a presentation for VAM Thing XVI!
